A friend of mine once said “Do you want to be right or do you want to be happy?”
I was in the habit of wanting to be right, which at the time seemed infinitely more important than choosing happiness.
Clearly, I didn’t understand the deeper significance of the question. I had to discover that it’s hard to choose happiness when your ego’s involved.
Still, you can choose to be happy or not.
Happiness is a choice
Now I understand that happiness is my responsibility and I can keep it or loose it depending on whether I choose an ego perspective or a True Self view of a situation.
For example, say we’re arguing over something that I remember differently to you. If we take an ego centred perspective then each of us believes we’re right and we get nowhere.
Furthermore, we’re miserable and blame each other for how we feel, but that’s the lie.
I thought you were responsible for my happiness, but my negative feelings are a consequence of choosing from my ego, you have nothing to do with it!
Conversely, choices made from a higher or True Self (Soul) perspective bring happiness. Why? Because choices made from this deeper aspect are in line with our deeper truth, and living from this truth results in happiness.
Furthermore, choices made from the aspect of the True Self allow us to be who we are in whatever circumstances, creating a calm, peaceful energy leading to happiness.
So you see, you can choose to be right or you can choose to be happy but it’s your choice . . .
