There comes a moment when you realise that its time to Surrender to life, to go with the flow, or you’ll suffer.
At least this has been my experience. When I hang on like grim death trying to control the outcome of anything, it never works. Even when it appears to work, I’m still not happy.
Yet, when I learn to surrender to what is, I experience a deeper sense of happiness, freedom and connection with my higher, wiser Self.
Surrender is powerful but not easy to practice
The dictionary defines surrender as a means to ‘give oneself up’ or ‘to concede something up to another’. Based on this understanding, surrender could be perceived as something weak.
However, from a spiritual perspective surrender is the complete antithesis of weakness. It is through Surrender that we grow spiritually. It’s in your ability to take action by letting go of the outcome and trusting that whatever happens, it will be okay. You, will be okay.
When you learn to go with the flow without judging the circumstances, as the best option to take, life works!
In other words, as you abandon what you think should happen, you tune into the amazing power that’s available to you in every moment and you become free.
Whatever the situation, if you surrender to life and let it take you where you’re meant to go, you will experience a smoother ride.
Over time you discover the outcome you receive is the right outcome for you.
Surrender can be simple
As I’ve said before, surrender is powerful but not easy. We’re so used to thinking that if we worry enough or try to force our will in a situation that we can control life. We can’t. What will be will be, yet that doesn’t stop us from trying, does it.
Yet surrender can be a simple thing. Take a recent experience I had when I invited a friend to dinner. I decided to make a yummy veggie stew using fresh Basil, but hard as I tried I couldn’t find any, only Oregano.
I had two choices; keep hunting for the Basil or buy the Oregano. At this point I’m being stubborn, not wanting to change the meal. I want Basil!
This is where it gets interesting
Unbeknown to me, my dinner guest is allergic to Basil.
I don’t know this but the Universe does, and is trying to make a different arrangement. However, unaware of the Basil issue, I keep trying to force the situation.
Still, I’ve learnt that if I need to use force in the situation then it’s time to stand back and see what’s going on. I need to ask myself what’s going on, why isn’t this working?
What I need to do is Surrender, but I’m not listening.
Can I give up my plan for the one that’s being put in front of me? Or do I ignore the guidance, buy the Basil, cook the dinner and make my guest sick.
Or do I Surrender . . .
Back to the meal.
I surrendered . . . eventually! Realising something else was going on, I bought the Oregano.
When my guest arrived and I’d told her what happened, she told me about her Basil allergy. Guidance was coming through all along, so I was happy I’d gone with the Oregano.
Point is though, it’s through situations like these that I learn to see Surrender in terms of letting go of what my mind’s telling me and choosing to follow my intuition or guidance, and the importance of following for a better outcome.
If you surrender to life’s arrangements, you’ll discover it works!
Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess. Just breathe, and have faith that everything will work out for the best. ~ Anon
